Workflows

Draw your own path with keyword branches, questions and follow checks.

A workflow is a flow you draw yourself, on a canvas, for when the ready-made funnel isn't enough: several offers on one post, different answers per keyword, a question in the DM with different outcomes.

You design a workflow once and attach it to as many posts as you like.

Create one

  1. Open Workflows and choose New workflow.
  2. A new workflow starts with the DM funnel already drawn, so you can edit instead of starting from nothing.
  3. Drag steps from the palette, connect them, and press Save.

On a phone, Add step opens the palette, and tapping a step opens its settings from the bottom of the screen.

The steps

StepWhat it does
CommentWhere every flow starts: a new comment on the post.
Keyword checkUp to 5 keywords, each with its own exit, plus a "none of these" exit.
Reply publiclyPosts an answer under the comment.
Send a DMSends a message, with optional link buttons.
Ask in DMSends a question with up to 3 buttons. Each button has its own exit, and the flow waits for the person's tap or typed answer.
Follows you?Splits into yes and no, using the follow check.
StopEnds the flow.

Note

Use Ask in DM whenever you want the person to do something first, like follow you. The flow waits for their answer, so the next follow check happens after they had the chance to follow.

Try it before it goes live

Press the walkthrough button (▶) to open How it works. Type a comment, press Post comment, and watch the flow run step by step. At an Ask in DM step you can tap a button or type an answer as the follower would.

The keyword step says why it matched, for example "pirce read as a misspelling", which makes over-broad keywords easy to spot.

Attach it to a post

Open the post, choose Handle by workflow, pick the workflow and press Save. The post page shows the workflow read-only; edit it in the designer. Because one workflow can serve many posts, a change in the designer applies to all of them.

Import and export

  • Export (in the designer's toolbar) downloads the current canvas as a .codm-workflow.json file.
  • Import in the designer replaces the canvas (saved when you press Save). Import on the Workflows list creates a new workflow from a file.

This is handy for copying a proven flow to another Instagram account.

Limits

  • A flow runs at most 12 steps per comment, so a loop can never run forever.
  • Instagram allows one private reply per comment; the first DM step uses it and later DMs continue the same conversation.
