Connect Instagram
Requirements, permissions, and what to do when connecting fails.
Codm talks to Instagram through the official Instagram API. Connecting gives Codm permission to read your posts and their comments, and to reply to them.
Before you start
| Requirement | Why |
|---|---|
| A professional account (Business or Creator) | Instagram only offers its API to professional accounts. Personal accounts can switch for free in the Instagram app. |
| You can sign in to that account | You approve the connection on Instagram's own screen. |
| You allow every permission | Codm needs all of them: reading posts and comments, replying, and sending messages. |
Connect
- Open Instagram accounts from the menu (or the welcome screen if this is your first account).
- Choose Connect account.
- Sign in to Instagram if asked, and approve every permission.
- You come back to Codm with a green confirmation. Comment notifications are switched on for you automatically.
In the Android app, the Instagram screen opens in your phone's browser and returns you to the app when you're done.
When connecting fails
Codm explains what went wrong and how to fix it instead of showing a generic error. The usual causes:
- A permission was turned off. Connect again and leave every switch on.
- It is a personal account. Switch it to professional in the Instagram app, then connect again.
- You were signed in to a different Instagram account in the browser. Codm always asks Instagram to show the sign-in screen, so check which account you sign in with.
The dialog also has a Technical details section with Instagram's own message. Copy it into a support ticket if the fix doesn't work.
Disconnecting
On Instagram accounts, open the account's menu and choose Disconnect. Codm stops replying straight away, turns that account's automations off and forgets its access. Your automations are kept, so reconnecting the same account later brings them back (switched off, ready to turn on).
Warning
Only the person who first connected an account can reconnect it. To move an account to someone else's Codm, contact support.
