DM funnels
Reply in public, then walk the person to your link in a private chat.
A DM funnel turns a public comment into a private conversation that ends with your content: a link, a discount code, an address, instructions. It's Codm's most popular mode.
What the follower sees
- They comment on your post, for example "guide please".
- Codm replies under the comment: "Sent you a DM 📩".
- A DM arrives with a button: Yes, send it.
- They tap it. Codm asks them to follow you, with Visit profile and I'm following buttons.
- They tap I'm following. Codm checks with Instagram, then delivers what you promised.
Set it up
Open the post, choose Send content in DM and press Save. The funnel comes filled in; normally the only thing you add is your content in step 6.
The funnel has six steps. Each opens to edit, and most can be switched off:

The preview on the right replays the whole conversation. Switch it between Follower and Not following to see both paths.
Buttons and typed answers
Instagram allows up to three buttons per message. Buttons only appear in the Instagram mobile app; on instagram.com the person sees the text without buttons.
People can always type instead of tapping: typing the button's words ("yes", "send it") or its number ("1") works the same as a tap. See How keywords match.
When the keyword doesn't match
When a post is in DM mode, the funnel owns it. A comment that doesn't contain your keyword gets no reply at all; Codm never falls back to a public reply. If you want every comment answered, switch Keyword match off.
Good to know
- Codm can send only one private reply per comment; that's an Instagram rule. The funnel is built around it.
- Every message the funnel sends counts towards your monthly replies. See Plans and limits.
- Each person goes through the funnel once per comment; commenting again starts it again.
Tip
Grow your followers by keeping step 5 on: the link only goes to people who follow you.
